Cybernetic Skies

Cyberworld Skies is an art installation piece that uses Unreal Engine, Ableton and Max 8 to create an interactive art piece that reacts to noise and sound.

Role: Sole creator: concept, audio (Ableton), and generative visuals (Unreal Engine 4 + Max 8).

  • Built an audio-reactive installation where each Ableton track drives a specific 3D object via a Max 8 signal chain.
  • Linked sound and visuals so voice and MIDI input reshape the sky, rain, and sun in real time.

The Concept

Cyberworld Skies is an interactive sound and visual experience exploring the relationship and contrast of cyber aesthetics and natural forms. This is represented through the transformation of weather, cloud cover, rain, and sun, responding in generative forms through EDM-style music and interactive feedback with human voice and MIDI keyboard inputs.

Audio

Audio

The audio aspects were developed using Ableton, with each track running separately to respond to different elements. The two interactive elements are a cloud-cover wave that fluctuates from voice input, and a gray sun orb that distorts through MIDI keyboard hits. Pixel raindrops, building lights, and sky are synced to the snare, claps, and bass.

Connecting the Visuals

Connecting the Visuals

The visuals were created using Unreal Engine and various 3D assets. Each track was bound to an envelope in Max and passed a signal from Ableton to activate. Once the track frequency reached the desired threshold, Unreal Engine lit up a specific object, creating a unique audio-reactive system.
